The Manchurian Crabapple Adds Color to Your Outdoor Bonsai Collection
If you’re looking for a very colorful outdoor bonsai tree to add to your collection, you may want to include a Manchurian Crabapple. This outdoor bonsai is a flowering bonsai that features small, dark green leaves that droop downwards, which is something that is fairly unique for a bonsai tree. During the spring, slight hints of red appear on the leaves. The bonsai also breaks out in bright white flowers that are then followed by small, bright red fruits. The tree looks gorgeous during this time. What’s also great about the Manchurian Crabapple is that it’s a very hardy bonsai—even the most basic of beginners can keep it alive.
Of course, just because it is hardy does not mean that you can simply ignore it. The Manchurian Crabapple needs to be sheltered from the harsh winter weather, especially from the winds and the ice.. It also needs to be kept out of direct sunlight. For this reason, many people grow their outdoor bonsai in sheltered courtyards or porches. Always remove any standing water from your bonsai pots as soon as possible, and if it looks like a major storm will hit, you may even want to consider bringing them inside for a short period of time.
