What Motivates The Non-Athlete To Compete
Maybe it’s our human nature. Let’s face it we like to compete. Whether it is in the classroom, at work, or on the field, us non-athletes like to compete. When it comes to working out at the gym do you find yourself looking around at your fellow sweaters and get that urge deep inside to push yourself just a little harder on an exercise machine? That’s competing. When you are jogging down the street and another jogger comes up from behind you out of nowhere and passes you, do you get a little more hop in your step? That’s competing.
It may not take much but the non-athlete competes everyday. So where is the motivation that brings out the competition in us? One reason might just be to get healthy. When we exercise we control our weight better.
We develop muscle mass instead of losing it, we make our heart stronger. We feel the difference in our posture, our flexibility and in our stamina. We develop the energy to meet new challenges. That is our competitive spirit. Being good at something is nothing to be ashamed about. Having confidence that you are good at what you do doesn’t need apologies. Motivation is within all of us. How we bring it out is the only difference.
